Sort Lines Alphabetically

Sort lines A to Z, Z to A, naturally (file2 before file10), by length, or case-insensitively.

What this does

Sorts the lines of your text. Paste a list, choose how to compare lines, and the sorted list appears right away. Sorting is stable, so lines that compare equal stay in their original order.

Sort modes

  • Alphabetical compares character codes, the same as sort withLC_ALL=C. Uppercase letters come before lowercase ones unless you tick “Ignore case”.
  • Natural compares runs of digits by value, so file2 comes beforefile10, and uses your browser's locale rules for letters.
  • Line length puts the shortest lines first (or last, descending).

Example

banana, Apple, cherry sorts alphabetically toApple, banana, cherry; descending reverses that. The toolbar also offers deduplicating, trimming, numbering, and filtering the same list.
